The Sewing Room Blog
We had a lovely day on Saturday, sewing and creating beautiful bird brooches and buttons hair pins. Our small group of girls varying in age from 6 to 10 years old, focused so hard on their sewing to create these fantastic bird brooches. They blanket stitched around bird shapes cut out of Japanese fabric, then filled them with wadding and attached a lace wing. Then a bead was stitched on for a sparkling eye. I was so impressed with their attention to detail, creating perfect little stitches.
We also made covered buttons in matching fabric for hair pins, which was just as fun.
What a lovely way to spend Saturday afternoon. Thank you lovely young ladies.
Didn’t we have a lovely day, the day we went to The Sewing Room. It was a beautiful day to learn to sew as it was wet and dark outside as we toiled away like busy little beavers. There was time to chat and enjoy a cup of tea while we made these beautiful bags.
There was lots of smiles in the fun and relaxed environment where you learn the basics of using a sewing machine.
And you go home with a gorgeous new bag, made by you. Pretty clever aren’t you!!!

Grant Cowan illustrator of the gorgeous book “Dreaming of Dior ” by Charlotte Smith will be holding a workshop on Saturday 27th February at the Sewing Room. He will begin by talking about being an illustrator and will explain how the wonderful fashion drawings in the book came about, showing you original artwork and drawings in progress.
This weekend workshop offers a fun and relaxed environment where you learn the basics of fashion drawing. You will be provided with fashion templates to get you started on your own designing. You will also learn how to build your own templates. This workshop aims to provide an understanding of how important illustration is to the garment making process, and is a great start to building your own fashion folio.
